February 18, 1999 - A delegation from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development led by its finance department director Laesh Bokros met with President Karimov on February 18. Both Uzbekistan and the IBRD carry out projects based on a strategic cooperation revised and renewed every three years. First such a document was signed in 1995. Last February the IBRD approved a new strategic plan for cooperation for the next three years. The first document was aimed at assisting to form a market infrastructure, maintaining the national currency, modernizing the cotton industry, providing training for experts in the privatization sector and others. At the meeting both sides also discussed such projects as the reformation in healthcare, the development of public transportation, the opening of a fund for small investments and microcredits and others.
